The Project
Every design tells a story
Symbolic Story translates into cloth the symbols each culture has carried for generations. One culture per collection and one artist per mark.
Why symbols
Symbols as memory
A family crest meant to be known at a distance. A line that turns and comes back without breaking. A calendar cut into stone to say the world is temporary. Every culture kept what it knew in shapes anyone could carry.
The only signature on each piece is the symbol, and the symbol belongs to the culture that made it.
How we work
One story, start to finish
- 01
Study
We choose a culture and look for a symbol that still means something to the people who inherit it. We read where it comes from, and the context it is used in.
- 02
Find the artist
The mark is drawn by someone close to that culture or its craft. Their name, their face and their words travel with the piece.
- 03
Translate into cloth
The drawing is worked until it survives cotton, ink and the scale of a chest. One line, one weight.
- 04
Close the story
A numbered run is printed. When it sells out, the collection moves to the archive.
Our criteria
The artist's credit
Every piece carries the name of who drew its mark, with their reading in the first person.
Documented sources
Every mark we print has a written record behind its origin and meaning.
Respect for the sacred
Symbols a community keeps for ceremonial use stay out of our collections.
